PostNL launches delivery preferences with itsme®

  • In the PostNL account, recipients can now easily and securely choose where they want to receive their parcel.
  • The integration of itsme® into PostNL accounts confirms the identity of the recipient setting a delivery preference, increasing reliability.

Mechelen, 9 September 2025

PostNL Pakketten Belgium is introducing delivery preferences. With this new feature, recipients can choose where the deliverer should deliver their parcel by default. This can be set up quickly and easily in the PostNL account. To enhance reliability, account identification—both online and in the app—is now done via itsme®. This results in fast and convenient delivery, as well as a secure and trustworthy process for every consumer.

Always delivered where it suits you with PostNL’s delivery preferences

Recipients can now choose standard delivery to their home, a PostNL Point, a (specific) neighbour, a home parcel locker, or a secure location near their home. This choice is made in the PostNL account after a one-time identification via itsme®. This ensures that the deliverer always delivers the parcel to the location selected by the recipient.

On an average day, PostNL delivers parcels on the promised day and location in 98% of cases. This means speed and convenience for both the recipient and the deliverer. Additionally, setting delivery preferences reduces traffic movements, which benefits the environment.

Identification in the PostNL account via itsme®

Every consumer can create a PostNL account, either via the PostNL app on a mobile device or on a computer. Once the account is created, they can set their delivery preferences after completing identification via itsme®.

“Recipients now have full control over where they want to receive their parcel. The additional identification when setting delivery preferences ensures the reliability we need to deliver safely,” says Arvin Willemse, General Manager of PostNL Pakketten Belgium. “With over 7 million active users in Belgium, itsme® is a well-known and trusted app. Its ease of use ensures a smooth customer experience, both in the PostNL app and online, and later during delivery at the chosen location.”
“At itsme®, the combination of digital security, ease of use, and trust is central to everything we do. Thanks to our collaboration with PostNL, consumers can not only manage their delivery preferences more easily, but also with the assurance that it’s done in a reliable and secure way. This partnership illustrates how we use technology to make life smoother and safer for millions of Belgians,” says Tom Van Den Bosch, CEO of itsme®.

About itsme®

Since 2017, the itsme® app has been the simple and secure reference for mobile identification and privacy protection in the digital world. Today, itsme® has more than 7 million users and is adopted across more than 20 different sectors. With itsme®, users can: identification (create a new online account and share identity details), authentication (secure and personal access to a website or application), approval of transactions (confirm a purchase or bank payment), electronically sign documents with legal validity (qualified electronic signature with the highest level of assurance), and, finally, share data from an authentic source with a third party (data sharing). These various functionalities account for an average of 35 million itsme® actions per month, or more than 1 million itsme® actions per day.

itsme® was recognized as a digital identity by the Belgian government in January 2018 and at the European level in December 2019 (LOA high eIDAS). The application is widely used in the financial sector as it complies with PSD2, FATF, and GDPR regulations and has obtained ISO27001 certification.

itsme® was developed by the Belgian Mobile ID consortium, which brings together seven leading players from the Belgian banking and telecommunications sectors: Belfius, BNP Paribas Fortis, KBC/CBC, and ING on one side, and Orange Belgium, Proximus, and Telenet on the other. In mid-2021, for the first time since the identity app’s launch, a government fund became a shareholder, acquiring a 20% stake: the Federal Participation and Investment Company (FPIM). Additionally, six other shareholders contributed extra capital, with the aim of taking further steps towards a European digital identity.

Today, the app is available in 24 European countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom and Sweden.
