Revolut Streamlines Registration with itsme® Integration for the Belgian Market

Creating a Revolut bank account is now even more seamless and trusted thanks to Belgium's favorite digital identity

  • Account creation is quicker and more reliable thanks to the itsme integration, with over 80% of the active adult population using their digital identity
  • New users can skip manual data entry and document collection steps.
  • While itsme becomes the preferred method, the current registration process remains fully available.
  • For Revolut, this step confirms its investment in and commitment to the Belgian market.

Brussels, 22nd April 2026 – Revolut, the online bank with over 70 million customers worldwide—of which one million in Belgium, today announced the integration of itsme into its sign-up process. itsme is the trusted standard for digital identity in Belgium. This strategic update enables Belgian residents to create a Revolut account in just a few clicks, combining the convenience of the local digital identity provider with Belgium's fastest-growing bank.

By integrating itsme, which is used across more than 80% of Belgian adults and processes over 1,6 million actions per day, Revolut replaces the need for manual data entry and document collection with a seamless, trusted verification flow. New users can now simply select itsme during registration to automatically and securely share verified identity data, such as full name, address, and ID details. This significantly reduces the time required to open an account.

Although itsme is the preferred method for a faster and more reliable experience, it is not mandatory. Revolut’s standard, secure registration process remains fully available for those who prefer it or do not yet have an itsme account.

International Player with Local Commitment

This integration marks a significant milestone in Revolut’s investment in Belgium. Revolut operates as a fully licensed branch, regulated by the National Bank of Belgium (NBB), and provides all its customers with Belgian bank accounts and corresponding BE IBANs. The addition of itsme underscores Revolut's serious approach to local reliability by aligning with the trust standards already embraced by Belgian consumers.

Francesco Aghemio, Branch Manager Revolut Belgium, explains: "Revolut is a highly customer-centric company, and the integration of itsme is essential to meet the expectations of our Belgian users regarding convenience and trust. This further proves our ongoing commitment to the Belgian market and represents a key moment in creating a frictionless digital customer experience."
Hannah Cloetens, Spokesperson for itsme, adds: "itsme stands for simplicity and reliability. Thanks to this integration, users can identify themselves quickly and securely without any additional steps. In doing so, we strengthen our position within the financial sector and continue to invest in the accessibility and security of digital customer onboarding."

Ready for the Next Growth Phase in Belgium

This launch comes as Revolut met its milestone of one million customers in the region. With more than one million customers currently generating more than 14 million transactions per month, the digital bank has ambitious goals for the market. Innovations that are locally trusted and provide concrete value remain crucial for continued growth.

About itsme®

Since 2017, the itsme® app has been the simple and secure reference for mobile identification and privacy protection in the digital world. Today, itsme® has more than 8 million users and is adopted across more than 20 different sectors. With itsme®, users can: identification (create a new online account and share identity details), authentication (secure and personal access to a website or application), approval of transactions (confirm a purchase or bank payment), electronically sign documents with legal validity (qualified electronic signature with the highest level of assurance), and, finally, share data from an authentic source with a third party (data sharing). These various functionalities account for an average of 50 million itsme® actions per month, or more than 1,5 million itsme® actions per day.

itsme® was recognized as a digital identity by the Belgian government in January 2018 and at the European level in December 2019 (LOA high eIDAS). The application is widely used in the financial sector as it complies with PSD2, FATF, and GDPR regulations and has obtained ISO27001 certification.

itsme® was developed by the Belgian Mobile ID consortium, which brings together seven leading players from the Belgian banking and telecommunications sectors: Belfius, BNP Paribas Fortis, KBC/CBC, and ING on one side, and Orange Belgium, Proximus, and Telenet on the other. In mid-2021, for the first time since the identity app’s launch, a government fund became a shareholder, acquiring a 20% stake: the Federal Participation and Investment Company (FPIM). Additionally, six other shareholders contributed extra capital, with the aim of taking further steps towards a European digital identity.

Today, the app is available in 32 European countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, the United Kingdom and Sweden.
